Dialogue between Strings and Organ - NOSPR
Dialogue between Strings and Organ
The organ is by no means confined to monumental church music – in chamber arrangements, it becomes a subtle, responsive partner in dialogue. During this concert, it encounters the timbre of string instruments in a programme poised between Romantic and twentieth-century music, while keeping a conversation with the styles of earlier epochs. The performance by the chamber musicians will open with Antonín Dvořák’s Nocturne in B major – lyrical and distinguished by its melodious phrases. The atmosphere of this work will find an elegant counterpart in Joseph Rheinberger’s Suite, Op. 149 – clear in form yet filled with dialogue between the organ and the string orchestra. This part shows how naturally the organ integrates into a chamber texture. The programme closes with Ottorino Respighi’s Suite in G major – Baroque in stylistic inspiration yet filtered through the colouristic sensibility of the twentieth century. Here, the organ emerges from the shadows and steps into the light – not to dominate but to join the strings and create the bright and spacious sonority.
