JazzKLUB / Błoto + ION D / Jazz on the Ruins of Jazz - NOSPR

First came EABS, whose debut album ten years ago redefined what we call the young Polish jazz scene, proving that playing ambitious, independent music could also bring success. Later, Błoto evolved out of EABS, moving the parent band’s sound a little further away from jazz. But the greatest turning point in Błoto’s journey came in Bucharest's Floreasca district, where the musicians met Ion D, a central figure on the Romanian alternative scene, which combines global currents with local tradition. Błoto and Ion D were brought together not only by a shared musical visionbut also by their views on the history shared by the countries of the former Eastern Bloc – its painful transition and rampant capitalism. The Polish-Romanian experiment is now, in the artists' own words, 'no longer just the streets of Wrocław, but the concrete of Bucharest as well'. They add that their music has gladly shed the label of 'jazz', becoming instead 'jazz on the ruins of jazz'. So if anyone still doubts whether psychedelia, electro, techno, house, dub, hip-hop, afrobeat, trance or ambient can – with just a touch of jazz – become the building blocks of Art with a capital A, they really should hear Błoto and Ion D in concert.
