Every great composer after Beethoven has had to write a great Fifth Symphony; every trumpeter after Miles knows that the quintet is the magical form made for him. Since his debut on Parallel Worlds in 1993, Douglas has released more than fifty albums as a leader and written over five hundred published compositions. He has earned his place in the pantheon of the greats, whose every new line-up deserves close attention. But a quintet is a quintet. And the restraint that comes with age lends special significance to every note Douglas plays on the trumpet.
