Concert by the XVII Winners of the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition - NOSPR
Concert by the XVII Winners of the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition
This autumn, Poznań will once again become the violin capital of the world. Young artists will compete for the highest honours in one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious violin competitions, held under the patronage of Henryk Wieniawski since 1935.
We do not yet know who will win the Competition, but we already know that, shortly after the verdict is announced, the prize-winner – or prize-winners – will come to Katowice. It is a rare opportunity to hear these artists at a pivotal moment in their careers, fresh from the excitement of the Competition, before their names begin appearing on the programmes of other major concert halls.
History has shown that the Wieniawski Competition has, for decades, discovered talents who have gone on to conquer the world’s concert stages. Among its winners are David Oistrakh, Wanda Wiłkomirska, Piotr Janowski, Kaja Danczowska, Bartłomiej Nizioł, Piotr Pławner, Alena Baeva, Agata Szymczewska, Soyoung Yoon, Veriko Tchumburidze, Bomsori Kim and Hina Maeda – artists for whom Poznań became the gateway to an international career.
The NOSPR concert therefore promises an encounter with an important new voice in contemporary violin playing.
