Winners of the XVII Wieniawski Competition at NOSPR - NOSPR

The Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition is the oldest existing violin competition and one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world. Its history dates back to 1935. A true celebration of Henryk Wieniawski’s music, it has long been inextricably linked with Poznań. This year, the city once again became the centre of the violin world. Since the beginning of October, we have followed with fascination the successive rounds of the competition, watching talented young violinists from around the world vie for the prizes. Now the prize-winners are coming straight from Poznań to Katowice! This is a unique opportunity to hear these artists at a pivotal moment in their careers – fresh from the excitement of the competition, before their names begin appearing on the programmes of other major concert halls. The first half of the concert will feature Jinzhu Li, winner of Second Prize. Just 19 years old, the violinist captivated audiences and jury members alike with her extraordinary musicality. At NOSPR, she will perform Henryk Wieniawski’s youthful Violin Concerto in F sharp minor, a work particularly close to her heart. After the interval, the stage will belong to Bohdan Luts, who claimed the competition’s top prize in Poznań. He enchanted listeners with his virtuosity, impeccable sense of style and velvety tone, delivering a series of performances that led to a well-deserved victory. The excitement of the final round will return as we hear his interpretation of Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto in D minor live at NOSPR. We are about to encounter two rising stars of the violin world!
