Can one truly experience the emotional sweep of cinema without the screen? This concert answers with a confident yes. The organ, so often associated with church music, proves itself an ideal vehicle for cinematic grandeur. Capable of replacing the full orchestra, it can also uncover depths within familiar film themes that had hitherto gone unheard, lending them fresh spatial dimension and dramaturgy. How will it sound when famous themes from Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean or Interstellar are reimagined in organ arrangements? What new emotions, what hidden sensibilities will they awaken in the listener? Alongside works by such masters of film music as John Williams and Hans Zimmer, the programme will include compositions by Ludovico Einaudi and Olivia Belli, which blend contemporary minimalism and ambient music. The concert will also feature a classical touch in Eugène Gigout’s virtuosic Toccata since tradition and modernity are far less distant than they might appear. In this way, the organ ascertains it has no musical limits – it keeps surprising the listeners with a new variety on its sound.
