STACEY KENT
Stacey Kent is an acclaimed American jazz vocalist, a Grammy-nominated artist, and a prominent figure on the legendary Blue Note label. Although born in the United States, she launched her career in the UK, where she formed both a personal and artistic partnership with saxophonist Jim Tomlinson. Her debut album Close Your Eyes (1997) immediately caught the attention of critics, who praised her crystal-clear voice, impeccable phrasing, and a refined, emotionally resonant style.
Kent quickly gained international recognition for her unique sound, blending the Great American Songbook with Brazilian influences and French chanson. A major breakthrough came with the release of Breakfast on the Morning Tram (2007), her first Blue Note album, which sold over 300,000 copies and became a bestseller in France. In 2009, she was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. Her repertoire spans timeless classics by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as songs by Serge Gainsbourg and French icons like Barbara and Georges Moustaki. Her style has been compared to legends such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole. “Anyone who listens to Stacey Kent feels as though she is singing just for them,” critics say, highlighting the special connection she creates with her audience.
