ECHO Rising Stars / Gigashvili / Nutsubidze / Georgian on My Mind - NOSPR

Nini Nutsubidze sings with delicacy and intimacy, as though quietly humming to herself while sharing a music-making moment with the pianist Giorgi Gigashvili. She is a DJ and creator of electronic music. He is a classical pianist, prize-winner at international competitions, and a recording artist for the prestigious label Alpha Classics. In the programme Georgian on My Mind they are to present the richness of Georgian song and folk music in new interpretations.

Georgia’s popular hits are rarely known abroad, though they are works by the country’s most significant creators of popular music. Stylistically, they evoke the French chanson, the American ballad, or the Polish classics of the genre. When these young artists combine the songs with classical and Romantic piano miniatures, forming a surprisingly coherent whole, they highlight just how fluid and negotiable the boundaries of music really are.
