NOSPR / Peleggi / Risk-taking and adventurous
The journey following the exceptional female figures begins with the second "Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman" by Joan Tower. Inspired by Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" series, she decided to create her own, paying homage to "women who take risks and seek adventure." "Fanfare" No. 2 is dedicated to Joan Briccetti, the general manager of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. The dedicatee of the "First" is... Marin Alsop.
"Mother Goose" takes us into the world of 17th-century fairy tales, told in the impressionistic, incredibly colorful, and evocative language of Maurice Ravel. In contrast to the French composer's suite, the story of the secret-keeping nun Angelica, the main character in Giacomo Puccini's opera, does not have a happy ending. After so many intriguing portraits, it's probably a good time to take a breath – preferably in the shade of Ottorino Respighi's "Pines of Rome."
