Kurt Elling & The Yellowjackets - Celebrate Weather Report - NOSPR

The joint project of Kurt Elling and The Yellowjackets is a meeting of two contemporary jazz powerhouses that combine tradition and modernity. The artists have created the program “Celebrate Weather Report,” a tribute to one of the most influential jazz groups of the 20th century - Weather Report.

Kurt Elling's unique voice adds a human dimension to the instrumental compositions, opening them up to new sensibilities and narratives. The Yellowjackets, masters of jazz fusion with over 40 years of history, bring extraordinary energy and instrumental virtuosity to the whole. Together, they reinterpret classic Weather Report songs, enriching them with fresh arrangements, improvisations, and contemporary sounds.

The “Celebrate Weather Report” project is more than just a musical performance – it is a true journey through the history of jazz fusion, full of passion, creativity, and encounters between different generations of listeners. This concert cannot be ignored, which is why we recommend it to your attention.

Kurt Elling is one of the most outstanding jazz vocalists of our time, gifted with a distinctive, warm baritone voice with a four-octave range. He is a Grammy Award winner and multiple winner of the Male Jazz Vocalist of the Year title in the DownBeat and JazzTimes critics' rankings. In his work, he combines the deep tradition of vocal jazz with modern improvisations and a unique ability to interpret lyrics. Elling is also known as a master of vocalese, breathing new life into instrumental solos through words. He has performed at the world's most important jazz festivals and collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Chick Corea, and John Scofield.

Yellowjackets is an iconic jazz fusion band that was formed in the late 1970s and has remained one of the most important bands of the genre for over four decades. Their music combines jazz, funk, R&B, and elements of world music, creating a distinctive sound that is recognizable around the world. The group has released 26 albums, won two Grammy Awards, and received numerous nominations, and their work continues to evolve while maintaining its extraordinary energy and freshness. The Yellowjackets are also a band that has nurtured several generations of jazz musicians and is still considered one of the most important references in the world of jazz fusion. Over the years, their lineup has included legends, and the core of the group is still made up of top-class artists: Russell Ferrante, William Kennedy, Bob Mintzer, and Dane Alderson.
