Released by the Gdańsk label Alpaka, Tentno’s album The truth is at the bottom of the bottomless… was one of the most eagerly anticipated releases of recent years. It is said that while working on the recording, the band’s leader, Krzysztof Hadrych, was never entirely sure whether he was a jazz musician or a metal musician. Perhaps it is best that he never resolves that dilemma, because it is precisely those different means of expression and the tension between them that give Tentno's music such remarkable power. Hadrych never pretends that a guitar is anything other than a guitar, and his playing resonates with the instrument's rich history, far beyond jazz alone. There are distorted sounds, feedback and astonishing virtuosity, while each compositional idea seems to give rise to the next. Jazz, metal, math rock, minimalism, free improvisation – these musicians fear nothing and shy away from nothing. Yet the full experience of the band’s music can only be had in concert, where Marta Prabucka, a fully fledged member of the band, creates live visuals that transform every performance into a true spectacle.
