JazzKLUB / Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski Sextet / Komeda: My Sweet European Homeland
My Sweet European Homeland is Krzysztof Komeda’s music for poems by outstanding Polish poets, including Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, Tadeusz Różewicz, Józef Wittlin, Józef Czechowicz, Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, Zbigniew Herbert, Stanisław Grochowiak, and Adam Ważyk. The music for the poems translated into German by Karl Dedecius was commissioned by the ‘pope’ of German jazz, Joachim-Ernst Berendt.
The album released in 2018 as No. 80 in the Polish Jazz series contains instrumental versions of the pieces recorded by a sextet led by the legendary Jan ‘Ptaszyn’ Wróblewski and composed of performer who are simultaneously his closest musical friends and luminaries of Polish jazz. My Sweet European Homeland – undefinable, ungraspable, fleeting.
