September 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane’s birth.

To celebrate the legacy of one of jazz’s most transcendent voices, the Branford Marsalis Quartet and Dianne Reeves will release an album offering a fresh interpretation of Coltrane’s groundbreaking 1963 collaboration with Johnny Hartman. The album is due for release on Blue Note Records in autumn 2026, followed by a world tour.

Branford Marsalis Quartet

Saxophonist Branford Marsalis is one of the most influential and respected figures in contemporary music. An NEA Jazz Master, three-time Grammy Award winner, and Tony and Emmy Award nominee, he is equally at home performing with symphony orchestras and playing alongside members of the Grateful Dead. Yet at the heart of his musical universe remains the Branford Marsalis Quartet.

With more than three decades of music-making and remarkably few changes in personnel, this acclaimed ensemble is renowned for its uncompromising interpretations of a kaleidoscopic range of original compositions and classics from jazz and popular music. Following two Grammy-nominated albums, Upward Spiral and The Secret Between the Shadow and the Soul, the quartet made its Blue Note Records debut in 2025 with Belonging, a complete reinterpretation of Keith Jarrett’s 1974 album recorded for ECM.

Dianne Reeves

Five-time Grammy Award winner Dianne Reeves is the most acclaimed jazz vocalist of her generation. Renowned for her virtuosity, improvisational skills and distinctive blend of jazz and R&B, Reeves won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album for three successive albums – a first in any Grammy vocal category.

Reeves also appeared in George Clooney’s award-winning film Good Night, and Good Luck., earning another Grammy Award for her contribution to the soundtrack. Her most recent album, Beautiful Life, features guest appearances by Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway and Esperanza Spalding. Produced by Terri Lyne Carrington, the album also won a Grammy Award.

Reeves has received honorary doctorates from DePaul University, Berklee College of Music and The Juilliard School. Like Marsalis, she has been named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the highest honour bestowed upon jazz musicians in the United States. Apart from a duo recording with Romero Lubambo scheduled for early 2026, her collaboration with the Branford Marsalis Quartet will mark Reeves’ first album in twelve years.

Marcin Kydryński on the Event

The jazz world – indeed, the entire world of music – has been waiting for this encounter. Two legends coming together. And a tribute to a giant.

Five-time Grammy Award winner, one of the greatest vocalists in jazz history, recipient of honorary doctorates from numerous prestigious institutions, a diva in every sense of the word – Dianne Reeves.

And alongside her, a saxophone genius equally at home in many musical worlds: jazz tradition and modernity, the classical repertoire of the concert hall and popular music – Branford Marsalis.

The year 2026 marks the centenary of the birth of John Coltrane, one of the most important figures in the history of improvised music.

To pay homage to this iconic artist, Dianne and Branford are heading into the recording studio to revisit the repertoire of one of the most beautiful albums ever made – that exquisite bouquet of ballads, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman. The album will be released in autumn 2026, when the saxophonist’s quartet will also accompany the great Dianne on a world tour.

That Branford will also turn to Giant Steps, Naima and, of course, A Love Supreme is more than likely.

Siesta on the Road is proud to announce the only Polish concert of the Tribute to John Coltrane project, especially for those Siesta devotees in the south who, for various reasons (all of them serious, of course, and dictated by life’s demands), will be unable to make the journey north to the 16th Siesta Festival in Gdynia.

Sunday, 8 November 2026. NOSPR, Katowice.

An evening like no other.

Be there, so that years from now you can tell your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – and generations beyond: yes, we were there. We experienced it. We remember.

SIESTA on the Road

The idea behind SIESTA on the Road is to present live performances by artists familiar from Marcin Kydryński’s Sunday radio programme Pora Siesty (Siesta Time) and the bestselling Siesta compilation albums, of which twenty volumes have been released. SIESTA on the Road is hosted and artistically directed by Marcin Kydryński, a radio presenter, author, lyricist, record producer and photographer, and co-organiser of the Siesta Festival in Gdańsk. As he himself recalls: ‘We began around Valentine’s Day in February 2012, with the idea of meeting every few months thereafter, building towards a joyful annual culmination at the Siesta Festival in early May, and then continuing to perform until the end of the year. We hoped that these concerts, like their older sister on the radio, would become a lasting part of the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of people. It would be an honour for me to take on the artistic direction of the project and to host each of these evenings.’

SIESTA on the Road has welcomed world-renowned artists such as Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin & Chick Corea, and Dianne Reeves. Other performers featured in the series include Richard Bona, Ana Moura, Camané, Tito Paris, Sara Tavares, Lura, Mayra Andrade, Tcheka, Elida Almeida, Yami, Nancy Vieira, Lucibela, Márcio Faraco and Dino D’Santiago.

Alongside the music itself, the values at the heart of Siesta are the meeting and blending of cultures, the breaking down of boundaries while respecting regional traditions, and reconciliation across historical divides.
