NOSPR / Spotti / Prandi / Berlioz's fantastic world
The Opera - "The King of Ys" failed to make it into the repertoire, although it is at least intriguing. The story based on the legend of the "Breton Atlantis”, Lalo embellished with music inspired by Wagner. It sounds great, although it would be a challenge for anyone unfamiliar with the score to guess the name of its author.
On the contrary, in the case of Dvořák's Cello Concerto, if we wanted to point out the most representative work of the characteristic Czech composer's style, it would be the widely beloved Concerto.
The same goes for Berlioz's "Symphonie fantastique" – the first autobiographical work in the history of this genre, created under the influence of (initially) unfortunate love. In the age of social media, Berlioz's exhibitionism no longer impresses anyone.
What remains consistently dazzling are the brilliant orchestration, innovative use of the musical idée fixe, and the original concept of form.
