Miriam Prandi Cello
Italian cellist Miriam Prandi is recognized as one of the fastest rising stars of her generation, winning praise for her passionate performances and deep rich tone. Following her performance of the
Dvořák Cello Concerto at Zurich Tonhalle, she was praised by the Schweizer Musikzeitung for her “sincerity of expression which is surprising for her young age” and that “one gets the impression that the cellist lives only within her playing.”
Recent highlights include celebrated debuts at the Milan's Teatro alla Scala with Accademia della Scala Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev for the MITO Festival, as well as the successful tour in Bolzano, Trento, Silandro, Firenze as a soloist with the Orchestra Haydn under the baton of Michele Mariotti. Together with her longtime recital partner, the pianist Alexander Romanovsky, Miriam Prandi played in Rome at the Cappella Paolina in the Quirinale for the Rai Radio3 broadcast as well as in various renowned chamber music Concert Series like Amici della Musica in Verona, Musica Insieme Bologna, Associazione Chamber Music in Trieste and others.
Ms. Prandi expresses her musical diversity not only as a solo cellist, but also as a pianist and chamber musician. In 2016 she made her debut at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino performing both Mozart Piano Concerto K. 595 and Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Chamber Orchestra.
In addition she gave the world premiere performance of the Vivaldi Triple Concerto (arranged for three cellos), alongside Ivan Monighetti and Min Ji Kim, with the Gstaad Festival Orchestra under the direction of Neeme Järvi.
Ms. Prandi is the winner of the 2014 Rahn Musikpreis, personally awarded by Chairman Sol Gabetta. She has also won First Prize of the Geminiani Competition in Verona, the Muzio Clementi Prize in Rome, and is the recipient of scholarships from the Lyra Stiftung, the Ambrosoli Foundation, the Rudolf von Tobel Studienstiftung, and the Rahn Kulturfonds.
Born in Mantova, Italy in 1990, Miriam Prandi began her musical studies on piano with her father at the age of five, and continued her studies at the International Accademia Pianistica in Imola. At the age of six she joined the cello class of Marianne Chen, and later pursued studies with Natalia Gutman in Fiesole and Vienna. Ms. Prandi received her Soloist Master degree with 'Distinction' from the Hochschule der Kuenste Bern where she was a student of Antonio Meneses. She is also strongly influenced by her studies with Ivan Monighetti, and has played in masterclasses for Martin Löhr, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Gary Hoffman, Ralph Kirshbaum, Andrea Lucchesini.
Miriam Prandi has performed solo recitals across Europe and North America, and has been a featured artist at the Opera di Firenze for the Festival of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, at the Auditorium Rai for Unione Musicale Torino, at the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, at the Bologna Festival a.o., the Cultural Days of the European Union Bank in Frankfurt am Main, and at New York University and Santa Clara University in the USA, and at the Menuhin Festival Gstaad in Switzerland, among others. She has also performed as soloist with the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana on a tour of Italy and Israel, and has made appearances with the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana at the Teatro Politeama in Palermo, the Argovia Philharmonic at Tonhalle Grosser Saal Zurich, the Berner Symphonieorchester at the Kulturcasino Bern, the Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra at the Tonhalle in Zurich, Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino and has collaborated with Conductors such as Vladimir Fedoseyev, Neeme Järvi, Andris Poga, Gianluca Marcianò, Michele Mariotti among others.
In addition to her activities as a solo cellist and pianist, Ms. Prandi is an avid chamber musician performing throughout Europe in such prestigious venues as Berlin Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Rheingau Music Festival, Konzerthaus Vienna, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, among others. 2016-2018 she has been member of the delian::quartett and has recorded the entire Bach ‘Art of Fugue’ at the Deutschlandfunk Köln for the label Oehms Classics. She has also taken part in the Oleg Kagan Musikfest, Kronberg Academy’s Chamber Music Connects the World, several chamber music projects at the Musikverein Glaesernersaal in Vienna, and has collaborated with such renowned artists as Salvatore Accardo, Andrea Lucchesini, Natalia Gutman, Pietro De Maria, Pavel Vernikov, Stefano Bollani, Sergey Krylov.
Miriam Prandi performs on a cello by Giovanni Grancino (Milan, 1712), a generous loan from Fondazione Pro Canale Onlus.
