NOSPR / Lawrence Foster / Pinchas Zukerman / Amanda Forsyth
The concert will be available via radio broadcast on Polish Radio 2 in the programme "Filharmonia Dwójki". Starts at 19.00.
Asked to describe his Double Concerto in three words, Dorman chose ‘rhythmic’, ‘expressive’ and ‘exciting’. This composition is driven by the dynamic interaction between the soloists and by their musical personalities. Forsyth represents the modernist element, the desire to forge new paths, while the composer sees Zukerman – a legend of the Israeli musical world whose performances he followed back home as a child – as symbolising remembrance of the past. The same artist will also be performing Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor. Those concert works are complemented by a symphonic poem, or, more accurately, satirical ‘fantastical variations on a theme of a chivalrous character’, with leading roles for cello and viola, through which Strauss illustrated the adventures of Don Quixote, lost between the worlds of reality and illusion, and his faithful companion Sancho Panza.
