Not for Elise: Beethoven in Sound, Images and Installations - NOSPR

Icon, innovator, idealist – these three ‘i’s could easily serve as a description of one of the greatest composers of classical music. His Bagatelle in A minor, better known as Für Elise, has been popularised almost beyond measure and can now be heard in countless places around the world – as a mobile phone ringtone, in musical toys and in all manner of everyday objects, not necessarily of the most refined kind.

Beethoven himself was often irritated when only his most popular works were played over and over again. He complained: ‘But I have written better things.’  So we will hear not only the popular pieces, but some of those ‘better things’ too, presented in a version created for families with children. And we will tell you not only about his magnificent music, but also about the countless fascinating objects and installations that make up a kind of playground inspired by his music.
