Lunch concert / Koetsier, Crespo & Nagle
We would like to kindly invite you to watch this concert online on our website or NOSPR Facebook profile or YouTube channel.
The NOSPR brass quintet decided to fall, though of their own will, into the capable hands of masters of their craft. The programme of today’s concert is filled with works by composers who had ample reasons to turn their attention to composing for such an ensemble. The Dutch conductor Jan Koetsier, who had been the Kapellmeister of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1950, soon started working with the British Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, one of the first classical brass ensembles in the world. The recently deceased Enrique Crespo was for many years first trombonist of Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart. The American trumpeter Paul Nagle found acclaim as the author of multiple arrangements for pop and jazz brass orchestras. These composers’ brass quintets undoubtedly exhibit power, supported with creative talent and long-term practical experience. Temples will have to be moistened*!
* Reference to the lyrics of “Orkiestry dęte”, a Polish 1970s jazz-folk hit song sang by Halina Kunicka, describing the power of brass bands’ members over women’s hearts, with women fainting at the sight of their lovers playing in marching bands, needing their temples to be moistened to regain consciousness.
