Piotr Nowak - NOSPR

Piotr NowakTrumpet

In 2014, Piotr Nowak graduated with distinction from the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, having studied trumpet in Professor Stanisław Dziewior's class. He went on to refine his skills at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin under the guidance of Professor William Forman.

He is the recipient of awards at numerous Polish and international competitions. Among his most significant distinctions are as follows: First Prize at the 5th Michał Spisak International Music Competition in Dąbrowa Górnicza (2011), Third Prize at the International Trumpet Competition in Łódź (2013), and an Honorary Mention at the 10th Competition of 20th and 21st Century Music, organised by the Polish Society for Contemporary Music in Warsaw (2014).

His musical education has been complemented by numerous masterclasses with eminent trumpeters, including Gábor Tarkövi, Wolfgang Bauer, Malte Burba, Andrei Kavalinski, Jonathan Impett, and Michael Ewald. For many years, he held scholarships from the National Children's Fund (now: the Polish Association for Gifted Youth), the Polish Minister of Culture, and the Mayor of Częstochowa. He has also been awarded scholarships through the Young Poland Programme (‘Młoda Polska’, a prestigious Ministry of Culture and National Heritage programme) and through the Hans and Eugenia Jütting Foundation (‘Jütting Stiftung’). He has appeared as both a soloist and a chamber musician in Poland and internationally, including performances at the Warsaw Autumn and the Prague Spring International Music Festival.

In September 2013, he became a member of the trumpet section of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. With the orchestra, he has performed under such conductors as Lawrence Foster, Marin Alsop, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Gabriel Chmura, Domingo Hindoyan, Jacek Kaspszyk, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Antoni Wit, and Pinchas Steinberg. He is also a member of the NOSPR Brass Quintet, with which he performs in Poland and abroad.

Since 2017, he has been working as a lecturer at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. He regularly runs workshops in schools of music and teaches courses of both national and international scope. In 2020, he obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Arts in instrumental performance. He has presented papers at international academic conferences in Kraków and Poznań. His musical interests are directed primarily towards contemporary repertoire, with particular emphasis on electroacoustic music.
