JazzKLUB / Hoshii - Kuba Więcek's jazz desires
"Hoshii" means "to desire" in Japanese. The new band by this name fulfills Kuba Więcek's desires to gather all the elements of music that fascinate him in one place. Sounds from different registers, places, and genres. For years, the leading saxophonist of the Polish jazz scene has already gained considerable experience as a producer of alternative and hip-hop music. The boundaries between improvisation and so-called popular music are also explored by Grzegorz Tarwid, who plays synthesizers in Hoshii. Whatever may happen during the group's concerts - and anything can happen - Więcek's compositions will surely retain their complexity, unpredictability, and motoric power. His phrasing carries a rare elegance among modern saxophonists, reminiscent of Lee Konitz.
