JazzKLUB / David Murray Quartet - NOSPR
JazzKLUB / David Murray Quartet
When it seemed in the 1970s that the jazz traditions of swing masters and innovative free jazz had parted ways for good, David Murray achieved an impossible synthesis against all odds. He confidently stood on the shoulders of saxophone giants, quickly becoming one of them. There are few tenor saxophonists who have built a more distinctive language and a more quickly recognizable tone. For a long time now, Murray has been playing in the same league as the greatest - Charles Lloyd or Sonny Rollins. Authoritative and sensitive, forceful and lyrical, the saxophonist turns everything he touches into gold, regardless of whether he's playing free jazz, jazz standards, or Afro-Caribbean music - he always remains unmistakably David Murray.
