Time for Music - NOSPR

Season 26/27

Time for Music

Seniors are among our most loyal music lovers – appreciative audiences at NOSPR’s weekend and evening concerts, but also the ones who bring their grandchildren to our concerts and workshops, playing an immensely important part in their musical and cultural development.

So we thought our senior audiences might like to visit us during the week as well – just after their morning coffee! :-)

These musical sessions for seniors and other adults offer an opportunity to spend time in a friendly atmosphere, taking part in musical activities designed to stimulate, engage and relax, led by a qualified music therapist. The sessions aim to encourage interaction with other participants, enhance well-being, and promote physical and intellectual activity. Through a wide range of active and receptive techniques, everyone can find their own way of expressing themselves through music: singing familiar and unfamiliar songs, creating new ones, playing instruments, improvising through movement, doing breathing exercises or simply relaxing. Given the nature of the sessions, the music therapist pays particular attention to participants’ safety and well-being. Each workshop follows a planned structure, but this is always adapted and modified to meet the participants’ needs on the day. No musical skills are required to take part – music is for everyone, and everyone can benefit from what it has to offer.

As the Norwegian music therapist Even Ruud writes, ‘being engaged in music means a stronger sense of identity and a gradual striving towards improving one’s quality of life’. This principle will also guide our sessions.
