Alexander Gadjiev / Recital of the Laureate of the 18th Chopin Competition - NOSPR
Alexander Gadjiev / Recital of the Laureate of the 18th Chopin Competition
The concert will be available via live streaming on the Chopin Institute's YouTube channel.
Controversial, but at the same time also intriguing – maybe even to the point of fascinating? Alexander Gadjiev was the underdog of this year’s Chopin Competition. Quite surprisingly, since the Gorizia-born pianist had already won other important prizes. Immediately before Warsaw, he won the Sydney International Piano Competition, having earlier triumphed in Hamamatsu and Monte-Carlo Piano Masters; he had also been selected as a BBC New Generation Artist. The last title fits him particularly well: the Chopin he showed was not the Chopin we had known. The pianist experiments, seeks new means of expression, new readings of well-known scores, and even new sounds. Sometimes extremally emotional, at other times colourful, but unfailingly originally thought out, he is certain not to leave listeners unaffected. This is a factor of immense value in itself. Such is the value that not only did he leave the Warsaw competition at the very high second place, but also with the special prize for the performance of a sonata. This piece will not be missed during his recital at NOSPR.
