Concerto No. 2 (‘Three Fjords’) for Hardanger fiddle and orchestra, Op. 252
Zygmunt Noskowski
‘The Steppe’, Op. 66. Symphonic poem for orchestra
Claude Debussy
‘La mer’ [The sea]. Three symphonic sketches for orchestra
The concert will be available in rebroadcast on 17 May on Dwójka – Program Two of Polish Radio.
The concert by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra will take us on a journey around nineteenth-century Viennese ballrooms (Ravel’s La valse), rugged Norwegian fjords, to the strains of a traditional Hardanger fiddle (Tveitt’s Concerto No. 2 for Hardanger fiddle and orchestra), a sweeping Ukrainian steppe (Noskowski’s The Steppe) and the wild sea off the Norman coast, its waves crashing against the shore, while on the distant horizon, ships move over the water (Debussy’s La mer).
[translated by John Comber]
Duration of the concert (including break): approx. 100 minutes
