NOSPR in Chamber Mode / Martinů & Brahms
Brahms thought it would be the last piece in his life. In this case, the opus number was of considerable importance: Beethoven’s Opus 111 – Piano Sonata C minor was the last work he wrote and whose breath Brahms felt on his back since his early youth. String Quintet No. 2 in G major, named by Max Kalbeck the Prater Quintet – after the favourite place of Brahms’ strolls in Vienna – fortunately, did not exhaust the master’s invention. Soon after that, there was created, among others, the wonderful Clarinet Quintet. As was likewise with Martinů’s Three Madrigals, written shortly after the accident that could have ended tragically for the composer. Meanwhile, instead of closing his collection of pieces, the piece turned out to be the first milestone in the long road to his recovery.
