NOSPR in Chamber Mode / Frant Duo - NOSPR
NOSPR in Chamber Mode / Frant Duo
For centuries, women were considered unfit for the art of composition. There were comprehensive theories created to prove why half of humankind was allegedly unable to undertake the activity. When women were allowed to compose, those were miniatures or songs that many of them fulfilled their potential and succeeded with.
It was not until the end of the 19th century that they began to be accepted in composition classes on a larger scale; nonetheless, it was also as late as in mid-20th century that Grażyna Bacewicz is but a pseudonym for a man. Women composers would be faced with disdain – it is only today that works by Fanny Hensel or Amy Beach are slowly entering concert halls, and Nadia Boulanger is beginning to be perceived as more than just an outstanding professor. New perspectives are opening. Will the canon of philharmonics’ repertoires change eventually?
