JazzKLUB / Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Quintet - NOSPR
JazzKLUB / Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Quintet
The radicalism of the flagship bands of the Japanese guitarist, such as Ground Zero, might have overshadowed his technical mastery and the sensitivity not always perceptible behind the walls of sound. The New Jazz Quintet is one of the already classic projects of an absolute legend of the Japanese avant-garde. In addition to original material, the group performs compositions by musicians like Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman, and Wayne Shorter. In this context, Yoshihide doesn't forsake his signature intensity, and his eclecticism allows him to juggle with conventions ranging from rock to free jazz. Although the quintet isn't a typical jazz combo, it unquestionably showcases the guitarist's genuine love for the great jazz classics and beautiful, melodic themes.
