The Kaze can boast over a decade of activity. We have grown accustomed to thinking that the ensemble is led by Satoko Fujii, a Japanese pianist, improviser and composer, and simultaneously one of the most important creators and band leaders in today’s creative music. Yet, the idea for its creation came from the American pianist Orrin Evans.

Critics say that the ‘melodic, abstract, mysterious, beautiful and confrontative Kaze quartet plays free jazz in its most creative and powerful dimension.’ It cannot be denied that all the members of the international quartet are characterised by enormous appetite for musical experiments, boundless energy and enthusiasm, as well as the disciplined intelligence of experienced composers. The group has released four albums: Rafale (2011), Tornado (2013), Uminari (2015) and Atody Man (2018).
