Dave Douglas Gifts Trio 

Do you remember Dave Douglas' Tiny Bell Trio? Oh, what a splendid band it was! For many listeners, an introduction to the extraordinary musical world of New York's Downtown scene. Almost 30 years later, the trumpeter formed the Gifts Trio, equally remarkable. He invited musicians from the alternative band Son Lux to collaborate, a group known for their original blend of post-rock and electronics. What's even more intriguing is that the trio's music is inspired by the figure of Charles Lloyd - a great, charismatic jazz legend - and saxophonist Billy Strayhorn's favorite compositions. Nothing in this band is obvious - but that's already Douglas' speciality, which, 30 years ago, earned him the status of one of the most important contemporary jazz trumpeters and has kept him in that position to this day.
