25 years of unease in perfect form. Brussels, Berlin, Tehran – the sixth album and a quarter-century for the project that has never played it safe. Oliver Doerell began building Dictaphone in 2001. A quarter of a century later, he returns with Unstable – an album that draws from the Belgian art music scene of the 1980s, where minimalist jazz meets musique concrète and post-punk sensibility. Alongside the project's mainstays – Roger Döring's clarinet and saxophone, and Alexander Stolze's spectral violin – the album features more voices than ever before. Among them are Helga Raimondi, the collage artist responsible for the band's visual identity, and Iranian artists from the Berlin diaspora: Kaveh Ghaemi, Ashkan Afsharian, and trumpeter Shahab Anousha. This Brussels-Berlin-Tehran intertwining is no coincidence – Doerell has been connected with the Iranian diaspora in Berlin for almost two decades, and the track "Rattle" from the classic "Poems from a Rooftop" (2012) still circulates in Tehran's underground. The title track "Unstable" is a tribute to Ian Curtis – lyrics based on the setlist of Joy Division's last concert. Over two hundred concerts worldwide, Mutek, Transmediale, Unsound. Dictaphone's music has been featured in BBC films, theatre, and ballet. In June – in Katowice.
Concert duration: approximately 60 minutes
