What's going on in space? / Meeting with PhD Sławosz Uznański - project astronaut of the European Space Agency

Saturday
19:00
Sławosz Uznański

Meeting with Dr. Sławosz Uznański - a project astronaut of the European Space Agency, who has the chance to be the first Pole in space in 45 years.

As part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024 Space Week, we invite you to the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice for a special meeting. This will be one of the few opportunities for a direct conversation with Dr. Sławosz Uznański, a Polish astronaut currently preparing for a flight to the International Space Station (ISS). It's a unique opportunity to get to know the world of space behind the scenes: how to become an astronaut? What does preparation for the flight look like? Why is space exploration so important to us - here, on Earth? What will Sławosz be doing in space? And what music will he listen to there?

The astronaut visits Katowice in connection with the final of the Direction: Space competition organized by the New Space Foundation and the Empira i Wiedza Foundation for Polish university students. As part of the competition, they prepare concepts for scientific experiments possible to conduct on the International Space Station.

The Saturday conversation with Sławosz is not coincidentally taking place at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, which for years has been encouraging to look at classical and contemporary music in a broad perspective - emphasizing numerous connections of the world of sounds with other fields. The meeting kicks off a series of concerts in the NOSPR program inspired by space themes, including during the Katowice Culture Nature 2024 Festival.

Meeting host: Jarosław Juszkiewicz - radio journalist, narrator, collaborator of Polish Radio Katowice and Radio 357, the voice in Polish navigation of Google Maps.

Curators of the space week: Dr. Milena Ratajczak, Jan Pomierny - New Space Foundation

Organizers and Partners of the event: Academic Consortium "Katowice - City of Science", New Space Foundation, NOSPR, European Space Agency, POLSA, Silesian Voivodeship.

Free entry tickets, sign up via the form.

Meeting duration: approximately 80 minutes
