AYO - MAMI WATA TOUR - NOSPR

AYO - MAMI WATA TOUR

Saturday
19:30

Ayo is a truly multi-ethnic artist. Her artistic nickname "AYO" means joy in the Yoruba language. It is precisely this kind of music - joyful music - that she shares with her audience. It's hard to classify her unequivocally, as she loves indie pop in parts, flirts with reggae, but all this is laced with a powerful touch of soul and jazz.

It's been some years since her big multi-platinum debut, but she still surprises with her artistic freshness. Ayo is a mother of three children, and divides her time between Paris and New York. She also doesn't shy away from the beaches of the Pacific, where she loves to travel. She won the hearts of Poles with the song "Down On My Knees" from her debut album "Joyful." Her subsequent hits "Life is Real" and "And It's Supposed To Be Love" were also equally popular. The album "Joyful" earned Gold Record status on the very day of its release in Poland. Her next album, "Gravity at Last," brought the hit "Slow, Slow," among others.

She came to the NOSPR for the last time in the fall of 2020 with a new album entitled "Royal." Unfortunately, it was not a happy time, as a pandemic thwarted the plans of the band and music lovers. The two concerts, which were divided 25% of the audience (pandemic restrictions) did take place, but many fans were unable to attend due to the restrictions.

Ayo's album "Royal" was originally intended to be recorded with reworkings of her own songs, but a sudden surge of verve resulted in material for a full album. Although she composed them with the help of a guitar, this time she focused solely on singing. Her warm tone of voice is endearing and soothing, and her simple melodies go straight to the heart. The whole album can be associated with the productions of Tracy Chapman, Sade and Norah Jones.

Throughout, the album pulses with a gentle rhythm, treated in a variety of ways - from the folk-tinged "Rest Assured," to the passionately sung catchy song "Beautiful," the jazzy "Rossie Blue," the bluesy "Fix MeUp," the reggae-tinged "I'm In Love" and the airy ballad "Just Like I Can't." Also included on "Royal" are three flawlessly interpreted covers. "Né Quelque Part" by Maxime le Forestier has the lulling reggae rhythm and delicacy of a French song. Ayo also reinterprets "Throw It Away" by the famous jazz singer Abbey Lincoln and the Lhasa soul anthem "Fool's Gold."
A very feminine album with a noble acoustic sound and pop catchiness.

In December 2024, Ayo returns to Katowice for a concert at the NOSPR concert hall with her new premiere project "MAMI WATA". However, there will be no shortage of old hits. In particular, her lively concerts are very popular around the world.

In the artist's own words: "Fame has never been a motivation for me to write a song or play music. It was always life, it motivated me the most." We strongly recommend this show and invite you to the NOSPR in Katowice.

Concert duration: approximately 90 minutes
