Tomasz Dąbrowski

Praised by DownBeat Magazine as one of the most versatile and intriguing figures of the European jazz scene, Tomasz Dąbrowski, a Polish trumpeter and composer, has been a part of the Scandinavian music scene for years. His creative work is characterised by a unique approach to sound – his music breathes a delicate whisper at times and bursts forth with powerful sounds at others and combines lyrical melodies with radical sonorities that break far away from the stereotypical associations with the trumpet.
Dąbrowski stands out because of his consistent artistic identity, which he has been shaping for years in his solo and ensemble projects. Unlike many artists who radically alter their aesthetic directions in the course of their careers, his approach is more ruminative and holistic – the fruit of deep reflection and of a ceaseless dialogue between composition and improvisation.
This approach has enabled him to create a recognisable sound idiom that keeps evolving yet retains its distinctive character.
Dąbrowski’s discography already counts eleven albums released under his own name (among them Individual Beings, Free4arts, Tom Trio), plus dozens more as a sideman and co-leader.
In 2025, his clear artistic vision won major recognition in Polish music community: he received two Fryderyk Awards – the most prestigious music awards in the country – as Musician of the Year and for Jazz Album of the Year, i.e. Better, recorded with The Individual Beings ensemble.
