AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy

One of Europe’s finest chamber orchestras and the undisputed leader among ensembles of its kind in Poland. Founded by a group of graduates of the Academy of Music in Katowice together with Marek Moś – an outstanding violinist, conductor and chamber musician – AUKSO provides a platform for artistic exploration, creative development and the collective pursuit of artistic excellence.

The Orchestra’s repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary music, with a particular emphasis on Polish works. Composers including Wojciech Kilar, Zbigniew Bujarski, Aleksander Lasoń, Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, Piotr Moss and Cezary Duchnowski have entrusted the ensemble with the world premieres of their compositions. The AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy is highly regarded for its interpretations of works by Polish composers, with numerous albums featuring music by Grażyna Bacewicz, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Witold Lutosławski, Wojciech Kilar and Zbigniew Preisner, among others. The Orchestra has also enjoyed success recording film scores by internationally renowned composers such as Elliot Goldenthal, as well as soundtracks for video games. Among its recent recordings are several albums nominated for the Fryderyk Awards, presented by the Polish music industry. These include Drach. Dramma per musica by Aleksander Nowak and Szczepan Twardoch (released by Anaklasis), Syrena. Melodrama aeterna by Aleksander Nowak and Szczepan Twardoch (Anaklasis; winner of a 2022 Fryderyk Award), and Pokora. Dramma giocoso by Aleksander Nowak and Szczepan Twardoch (Anaklasis). AUKSO is also the recipient of the Polish Phonographic Academy’s 2011 Fryderyk Award for Best Recording of Polish Music, awarded for the album Chopin. Wydanie Narodowe, recorded in collaboration with pianist Janusz Olejniczak.

AUKSO takes a particular interest in projects that cross musical boundaries, combining classical music with jazz, alternative music and rock, seeking common ground between these genres or, conversely, playing with contrasts and bringing distinct musical languages into collision. In this field, AUKSO has collaborated with such prominent musical figures and ensembles as Leszek Możdżer, Tomasz Stańko, Urszula Dudziak, Michał Urbaniak, Voo Voo, the Warsaw Village Band and Motion Trio.

Throughout its history, the Orchestra has enjoyed numerous distinguished collaborations with artists of the calibre of Jerzy Maksymiuk, Marc Minkowski, Rudolf Barshai, Howard Shelley, Jacek Kaspszyk, Władysław Kłosiewicz, Daniele Alberti, Piotr Anderszewski, Andrzej Bauer, Kaja Danczowska, Agata Szymczewska, Janusz Olejniczak, Olga Pasiecznik and The Hilliard Ensemble, among others. AUKSO also performs at Poland’s leading festivals, including the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, Wratislavia Cantans, Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum, the Film Music Festival, the Dialogue of Four Cultures Festival, Jazz Jamboree and the Chopin and His Europe International Music Festival. Its international appearances have included performances at the Barbican Centre, SESC São Paulo, the Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos de Zaragoza, Teatro Caja Duero and the Armonie sotto la Rocca festival.

The Orchestra regularly performs at the Mediateka in Tychy as part of themed concert series such as AUKSO MODERN, AUKSO ON/SIDE and AUKSO CLASSICS. Each year, the Orchestra’s home venue also hosts the AUKSODRONE festival, which has rapidly established itself as one of the most significant events on Poland’s cultural calendar. Bringing classical, jazz and alternative music together in a shared artistic space, the festival has quickly become one of the most important cultural events in Tychy.

In 2023, the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy received the Tychy Ambassador of Culture Award in recognition of its artistic achievements.
