Yasmin Levy is a deep female vocal surrounded by Sephardic music inspired by flamenco. Yasmin sings about love in the Spanish Jewish language ladino.
From an early age, she was exposed to Ladino culture and singing because her father (Yitzhak Levy) was a very important figure in the circle of people researching and preserving Jewish-Spanish culture, whose tradition has its roots in 15th century Spain. To this day, ladino remains one of the most poignant and romantic musical traditions.
In her deep and poignant singing style, Yasmin Levy simultaneously preserves and resurrects the most beautiful songs of her Jewish-Spanish Ladino heritage, fusing them with Andalusian flamenco.
Yasmin Levy's debut album entitled Romance & Yasmin was dominated by ladino songs and the album caused a great stir among music lovers around the world. Her next album La Juderia brought a unique combination of ladino and flamenco – it was thanks to this album that the artist's characteristic style was shaped, where Jewish spirituality and Spanish emotions found a perfect fusion.
Since the beginning of her career, Yasmin Levy has been performing all over the world with great success. In 2004 she performed at many international festivals and cultural events – WOMAD in Singapore, Forum Barcelona and the BBC New Year's Concert in London. In 2005 she toured Europe and USA, including appearances at London's Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and the WOMAD festival in the UK and Spain. In November 2005, she appeared on the most important music television show in the UK, Later... with Jools Holland, and in December she ended the year with a performance at one of the world's most famous concert venues, Carnegie Hall in New York.
The following years brought tours and performances in prestigious venues including: United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium and Lithuania. The album Mano Suave (released in 2007) was distributed worldwide by the prestigious company Harmonia Mundi. Songs from this album were played on many radio stations all over the world and contributed to a significant increase in Yasmin Levy's popularity and establishing her as one of the most interesting personalities on the World Music scene.
In 2009, she released Sentir, the album was produced by Javier Limon, one of the most sought-after contemporary music producers (he has produced albums by artists such as Paco de Lucía, Mariza, Concha Buika, among others). Yasmin Levy is one of the few artists to have been honoured annually for the past three years in the most prestigious BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music poll.
The magic of influence and the scale of Yasmin Levy's talent is reflected in comparing her to the most outstanding singers of world music. The artist will come to NOSPR with a repertoire from all her previous albums, but there also will be some songs from her upcoming album, whose first promotional single is the composition No Estoy Enamorada.
