The first performance of Prokofiev’s new piece in Chicago met with a pessimistic assessment of reviewers and the audience. Another performance in New York ended in a complete failure. Mendelssohn got onto working with commemorative symphony in the year preceeding the tricentennial jubilee of the Augsburg Confession, but he dealt with the score too late to submit the piece to the commission. The triumph of Piano Concerto No. 3 came less than six months after its premiere. The success of the Mendelssohn’s "Reformation" Symphony, still not obvious – came almost a hundred years after the composer’s death. Everything has its own time, even if it is running late.
