We strongly encourage you to take a look at our calendar of events for the 2020/2021 season. There are still many great concerts ahead of us. Thank you for being with us online and during radio broadcasts.
Quartet music is all but out of date. The oldest piece the Feeria String Quartet will present today is the Meditation on the Old Czech Chorale "St Wenceslas", patron saint of Czechia – the first part of a triptych written during World War I, a declaration of faith made by one faced with a tragedy of the nation. Contemporary composers from the Baltic States are equally willing to reach deep into their nations’ past – the Estonian Arvo Pärt in his Summa (1977/1992), initially written for a choir, and the Latvian Pēteris Vasks in his String Quartet No. 4 from 1999, elegiac and full of lyricism. Piazzolla, in his six-movement suite with Argentinian tango in the background, also referred to a past filtered through a present. The father of the "nuevo tango" composed the piece in 1956. It seems that the string quartet has not only a fascinating past to look back on, but also an exciting future to look forward to.
