Apostolis Anthimos / 50 years on stage / special guest Erik Truffaz / retransmission
We invite you to a rebroadcast of the concert which took place in the concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra on 2 May 2021. The rebroadcast will be accompanied by a radio premiere on Channel Two.
Apostolis Anthimos – a valued and versatile musician, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, one of the pillars of the legendary group SBB – celebrates 50 years of stage work this year.
On this occasion, in the concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, he presented his new piece, created especially for this occasion, and he was accompanied by his friends and special guests.
Apostolis Anthimos made his stage debut at the age of 17. Since 1971 he has been a guitarist and drummer in SBB, hailed as the most important rock band of the second half of 20th century in Poland. This formation charted a completely new pathway on the Polish music scene and became one of the most famous Polish bands in the world. Although Anthimos is mainly associated with SBB, he has collaborated and recorded with many jazzmen in his artistic career (Stańko, Szukalski, Urbaniak), and recorded his solo albums with leading figures of world jazz (Jack DeJohnette, Arild Andersen, Étienne M’Bappé, Gary Husband). He is also a highly regarded session musician, having played with the world star of Greek music, Dalaras, among others. All this wealth of musical experience of Apostolis Anthimos will be expressed in a piece composed especially for this concert. The guests invited to perform it are personalities representing different musical worlds – from experimentation to classic jazz.
The last performance of Apostolis Anthimos on Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra stage was in November last year together with SBB and NOSPR band. That concert aroused great interest among SBB fans all over the world and resulted in the release of an album.
