Jaimie Branch – an American trumpeter coming from the Chicago improvised music scene, currently living and working in New York. For over a decade, she has worked with top musicians, such as Jason Adasiewicz, Keefe Jackson and Tin Daisy. In addition to her jazz-related activity, she has also been active in multiple projects related to other genres, including indie rock, hip-hop and noise. Counting her idols, Branch does not hesitate to mention trumpeters representing markedly varied jazz styles, such as Booker Little, Miles Davis and Axel Dörner. Her musical adventure started with grunge and punk rock, while her interest in improvised music, combined with sound education (New England Conservatory of Music) and a fascination with free jazz, has blossomed into an original avant-garde style, full of unrestrained expression.
Fly Or Die II: Bird Dogs Of Paradise is Branch’s second own album, created during the concert tour promoting her 2017 debut Fly Or Die. She admits that the material for the second album originated from her cooperation with artists fighting for minority rights. At that time, public opinion became significantly polarised and the frustrations and anxieties accompanying the process had to find their expression in art. The album presents instrumental music written by the musician herself, rich in energy and dense arrangements. Even though the sound in Branch’s new album is darker than before, it is still a sound impossible to mistake with anybody else’s.
