JazzKLUB / Irek Wojtczak Tentet
Irek Wojtczak would blend jazz with folk long before it became fashionable. In the new material, both types of aesthetics reach an even higher level of integration. This time, the saxophonist undertakes work on several old melodies collected by Oskar Kolberg in the village of Parzęczew near Łęczyca. Together with the arranger, Aleksandra Tomaszewska, Wojtczak achieves the impossible – turning the folk material inside out, nonetheless maintaining its spirit. Performed by the Tentet, the obereks and the chodzonys still show the charm of a village dance yet become enhanced with the values of the most progressive currents in contemporary improvised music. The electrifying ensemble boasts the crème de la crème of Polish jazz musicians.
