JazzKLUB / Ben LaMar Gay Ensemble - NOSPR
JazzKLUB / Ben LaMar Gay Ensemble
He has been enthusiastically reviewed by 'Pitchfork', 'The Wire' and 'The Washington Post', with such classifications as 'Americana', 'blues', 'experimental folk', 'psychedelia' and 'Tropicália'. This music could only have originated from Chicago, a milieu of unorthodox artists gathered around the International Anthem label. Ben LaMar Gay, vocalist, cornetist, and above all composer, creates concept albums, in which the narrative layer and the musical activity are equally significant. Underneath all the coatings and the polyphony of genres, there lies a sensitivity rooted in jazz, lending the experiments quality and depth.
