Lute, Guitar, Electric, and Two Gramophone Awards - NOSPR
Lute, Guitar, Electric, and Two Gramophone Awards
"Gramophone," "The Guardian," and "BBC Music" hailed him as one of the most versatile guitarists in the world. All of the artist's albums have received recognition: despite his young age, Sean Shibe has already won two Gramophone Awards and one Opus Klassik. At the age of 20, he became the first guitarist selected for the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists program and the only solo guitarist to receive the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and the Royal Philharmonic Society Award in the "Young Artist" category.
As an enthusiast of the old masters, he creates his own arrangements of Bach's lute compositions, but he also eagerly explores and expands the repertoire of his instrument with works from contemporary and jazz music. In his latest release, "Lost & Found," Shibe included compositions by Olivier Messiaen alongside medieval pieces by Hildegard von Bingen, as well as jazz by Bill Evans and Chick Corea.
He has performed with ensembles such as the BBC Scottish Symphony, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
