Zbigniew Raubo - NOSPR

Zbigniew RauboPiano

Laureate of the F. Busoni Competition in Bolzano (1991), the F. Liszt Competition in Utrecht (1992) – to date the only Polish prize-winner of this prestigious competition – as well as the K. Szymanowski Competition in Łódź (1987).

Raubo graduated from the Academy of Music in Katowice with distinction, a student in Professor Andrzej Jasiński’s class, and in time – his assistant. Currently a professor himself at his alma mater, he was granted the title of Professor of Musical Arts by the President of the Republic of Poland in June 2013. The city of Kalisz has made him its Ambassador.

He has given concerts in every philharmonic hall in Poland, performing with many of the country’s most outstanding conductors, among them Jerzy Maksymiuk, Antoni Wit, Agnieszka Duczmal, Jerzy Salwarowski, Mirosław J. Błaszczyk, Marek Pijarowski, Tomasz Bugaj, Jerzy Swoboda, Krzysztof Missona, Łukasz Borowicz, Marek Moś, Czesław Grabowski, and Renard Czajkowski. His repertoire comprises more than thirty works for piano and orchestra. His most recent artistic achievements include recitals performed at the Chopin Festival in Vancouver and the ‘Poolse Meesters’ Festival in Belgium as well as masterclasses and a concert given at the Campos do Jordao Festival in Brazil.

The musician has made a number of recordings for both Polish and foreign record labels, among them the Japanese branches of Deutsche Grammophon and RCA, International Music Corporation, DUX, and Żuk Records.

Raubo is also an ardent chamber musician, having appeared with the Silesian, Wilanów, and Camerata Quartets, as well as with Bartłomiej Nizioł, Urszula Kryger, Elżbieta Mrożek-Loska, and Piotr Janosik.

He pursues an active teaching career: alongside his full-time position at the Academy of Music in Katowice, he works with young pianists in numerous courses and also contributes by advising institutions of lower-level music education.

As a member of the jury, he has taken part in many competitions, both in Poland and abroad, including the Polish Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, the International Chopin Competition in Asia, held in Japan, and the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation, awarding scholarships to emerging artists. His expertise was further recognised when he was invited to serve on the jury of the 11th International Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz.

Among his students are winners of music competitions, including the International Liszt Piano Competition in Wrocław, the Liszt Competition in Parma, the Polish Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk, and others. Recently, his student Tymoteusz Bies has won the first edition of the Karol Szymanowski International Competition in Katowice.
