Warsaw Boy's Choir
Warsaw Boys Choir was created in 1990 at the suggestion of prof. Andrzej Chorosiński, who was at that time the Rector of Warsaws Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music. The founder, artistic manager, and the conductor of the choir is Krzysztof Kusiel-Moroz.
In 1998 also men’s choir was established. It is composed of former members of boys’ choir – currently students of high schools and universities.
Warsaw Boys’ and Men’s Choir gives approximately 30 concerts per year in Poland and abroad. Choir’s repertoire is composed of the pieces coming from almost all periods – from Middle Ages Gregorian chant to the compositions written in present times. Separate part of choir’s work is devoted to great oratorio works, which are often performed in famous concert halls, under the leadership of conductors of mark. Starting from the 1994 the choir worked with such celebrities as Antoni Wit, Kazimierz Kord, Grzegorz Nowak, Jacek Kaspszyk, Yoav Talmi, Jerzy Semkow, Philippe Herreweghe, Valery Gergiev and Krzysztof Penderecki whose pieces Passion, Matins, Credo for good became a part of choir’s repertoire.
Travels abroad, during which choir’s performances were met with recognition from both the audience and the critics, have become an essential form of choir’s activity. Among others, choir visited: the Netherlands, Germany, France and Lithuania. In 1999, 2001 and 2003 choir toured Japan, performing in prestigious concert halls of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. Choir performed at the international music festivals: the “Echternach” festival in Luxembourg, the Europaische Festspieltage Passau (Germany), the International Festival of Sacral Music in Kristiansand in Norway. In 2009 Warsaw Boys Choir had some concerts in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and repeat the visit in Hong Kong in 2015. In Poland choir works with the most prestigious musical institutions, such as Warsaw Philharmonic, Wielki Theatre – Polish National Opera, International Festival “Wratislavia Cantans”. At september 2013 The Choir was performed 3 concerts in Berlin Philharmonic with The Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra, and in march 2017 in London Festival Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, cond. Vladimir Jurovsky.
Apart from its concert activity, Warsaw Boys’ and Men’s Choir runs abounding phonographic activity. Despite of its rather short artistic career, choir can boast a great number of recordings: Christmas carols’ tape (1995), G.B. Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater CD (1996), , M. Lorenc’s soundtrack for the motion picture Zabić Sekala (also CD, 1998), CD Choir Music of German Romantics, Silent Night tape and CD, world’s first recording of G. Crumb’s Star Child, K. Penderecki’s Matins CD (1997 and NAXOS 2007), Credo CD ACCORD (1999), NAXOS (2008), and Passion CD NAXOS (2002), Magnificat NAXOS (2011), the CD recording of oratory music by J. Haydn and L. van Beethoven Masses (2001, 2008) and A. Dvořák’s Stabat mater CD (2005), Mahler VIII Symphony NAXOS (2006), Schumann Faust Scenes NAXOS (2010). Warsaw Boys’ Choir recording of G. Crumb’s Star Child was given a 2001 Grammy Award.
The Choir is e winner of international choral competitions in Bratislava, Gorizia and Lecco.
