Mirouslava Yordanova Maddalena (alto)
Bulgarian mezzosoprano was born in Sofia and now lives in Great Britain. She began her musical training as a pianist and went on to study singing at the National School of Music in Sofia. After graduating with distinction her training continued at the State Academy of Music after which she was immediately engaged as a principal soloist at the Sofia National Opera. A prize-winner in several major competitions in Riva del Garda and Cardiff.
The vocal flexibility and stage presence allows her to embrace a wide variety of repertoire from baroque to contemporary music. Her operatic appearances have included many bel canto roles: Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Malcolm (La donna del lago), Maffio Orsini (Lucrezia Borgia), Gondì (Maria di Rohan), Adalgisa (Norma), Emilia (Otello), Federica (Luisa Miller), Azucena (Il trovatore), Amneris (Aida), Princess of Eboli (Don Carlos) and Carmen (title role).
She has worked with opera houses in London, Paris, Monte Carlo, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Tenerife and also sang with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Maastricht Academic Chamber Orchestra, Welsh National Opera Orchestra and Sofia Philhamonic Orchestra. She performed at the music festivals in Dordrecht, Immling, Erfurt, Buxton, Florence and Tenerife.
Ms. Yordanova is equally at home on the concert platform, giving recitals throughout Europe, often particularly devoted to the songs of Pauline Viardot. Concert appearances have included Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, Haydn’s Stabat Mater, Verdi’s Requiem, Liszt’s Via Crucis and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
Her discography includes two CDs featuring cantatas by G.B. Sammartini recorded for the Naxos label.
