Marzena Diakun - NOSPR

Award-winning conductor Marzena Diakun came to international acclaim in Paris in the 2015/16 season after several concerts with Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Her prizes and awards include second prize at the prestigious 59th Prague Spring Competition for Conductors in Czech Republic and at the 9th Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Poland (2012), "Polityka Passport" for the best artist in the classical music in 2016 and nominee for the Classical Best Innovation Award in 2019. With the new season 2020/21 she becomes First Invited Guest Conductor with the Orchestre de Chamber de Paris.

Diakun was also a finalist of the 4th International Lutosławski Conducting Competition (2006) and semifinalist of both Donatella Flick Conductors Competition in London and Quadaques Competition in Barcelona (2008).

Recent engagements include Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Liverpool Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, National Warsaw Philharmonic, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orquestra Sinfónica do Estado de São Paulo, Jeaner Philharmoniker, Deutsche-Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Göteborg Opera, Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Lubljana, Presidential Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, Istanbul Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.

She collaborated with such soloists as Martin Grubinger, Peter Jablonski, Andreas Staier, Ewa Kupiec, cellists Truls Mørk and Daniel Müller-Schott, singers Camilla Nylund, Klaus Florian Vogt, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Nathalie Stutzmann, Sabine Devieilhe, Jean-François Lapointe, violinists Linus Roth, Michael Guttman, and Alena Baeva.

Diakun is a dedicated supporter of contemporary music and premieres numerous works with both Smash Ensemble (Spain) and Berg Orchestra (Czech Republic). In 2016, she gave the Polish premiere of Olga Neuwirth's opera Lost Highway, as a part of the New Horizons Festival in Wrocław. She works with ensembles like the Ensemble Intercontemporain or the Amsterdam-based ensemble, Asko-Schönberg.

Diakun finished with distinction conducting class under Mieczysław Gawronski at the Karol Lipinski Academy of Music in Wroclaw. She completed postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in Uros Lajovic’s class. She received the highest distinction award from the Polish Minister of Art in 2005. She has been mentored by international conductors including Howard Griffiths and Colin Metters in Zurich (2003), Kurt Masur in Wroclaw (2004), Andrey Boreyko in Bern, and Pierre Boulez at the Luzern Festival (2011).

In 2015, Diakun was a recipient of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Conducting Fellowship at Tanglewood Music Festival, and won the Marin Alsop's Taki Concordia Fellowship. Diakun received „Kreatywni Wrocławia” award, and she was nominated to the „Wrocław Music Award” in 2015. She was „The Artist of the Year” in 2013 and obtained „Koszalin Eagle” - President of Koszalin award.

In 2010 Diakun completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Cracow Academy of Music. She currently is a conducting professor at the Karol Lipinski Academy of Music in Wroclaw leading her own conducting class since 2013.
