Maciej Tworek

He was born in Tarnobrzeg. His studies at the Academy of Music in Kraków included piano in the class of Prof. Jan Hoffman, choral studies at the Faculty of Music Education, and conducting in the class of Prof. Józef Radwan at the Faculty of Composition, Conducting and Theory of Music. He later took masterclasses run by conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, Roger Norrington, and Kurt Masur. He also worked as an assistant conductor alongside Valery Gergiev and Lorin Maazel.
In 1998, he received an honourable mention at the 2nd National Witold Lutosławski Young Conductors’ Competition in Białystok, and in 2002 he took part in the Maazel/Vilar Conductors’ Competition (the semi-final round). In 2003, together with the Chamber Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Kraków, he participated in the Young Artists Festival in Bayreuth. Between 2005 and 2012, he was a conductor with Capella Cracoviensis, where he also served as deputy director. He is currently a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Kraków.
He has collaborated with a wide range of ensembles, including The Hilliard Ensemble, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, State Symphony Orchestra “Novaya Rossiya”, Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela, Coro Sinfónico Nacional Juvenil de Venezuela, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra Choir (South Korea), NDR Chor, NDR Radiofilharmonie, MDR Rundfunk Chor, MDR Sinfonie Orchester, Camerata Janáček, the ensembles of the philharmonic halls in Astana, Brno, Kraków, Łódź, Wrocław, Białystok, and Rzeszów, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus, the Polish Radio Choir, and the “Pro Arte” Chamber Choir.
In 2002, he began a conducting partnership with Krzysztof Penderecki, one that has continued ever since. Among other achievements, it resulted in the preparation of the ensembles of the Polish National Opera for the European premiere of Penderecki's Symphony No 8, conducted by the composer himself. Since 2010, Maciej Tworek's artistic representation has been handled by the Ludwig van Beethoven Association.
