Karolina SikoraMezzosoprano
Graduate of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk (prof. Ryszard Minkiewicz’ class) and Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg (prof. Renate Behle’s class). Laureate of international vocal competitions, including Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singers in St Petersburg (3rd Prize), R. Stolz in Hamburg (1st Prize). Permanent collaborator of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, performing in such operas as: R. Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos (The composer), Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (Olga), Penderecki’s Ubu Rex (Mother Ubu), Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Dorabella), Moniuszko’s Haunted Manor (Jadwiga), Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana (Santuzza), as well asVerdi’s Nabucco (Fenena) and Aida (Amneris). She has also performed at the Grand Theatre National Opera as Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Onegin, Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto, 3rd Lady in Mozart’s Magic Flute, and Geneviéve in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, as well as at the Cracow Opera in Dionizetti’s Anna Bolena (Jane Seymour). She worked on Barrie Kosky’s opera productions during the Komische Oper Berlin tour in such locations as Paris (Opera Comique), Moscow (Bolshoi Theatre – New Stage), Japan, China and Taiwan. Her outstanding artistic achievements were awarded with the City of Gdańsk Award for Young Creators in the Field of Culture, the City of Gdańsk Theatre Award, and the Jan Kiepura Theatre Music Award for Best Female Singer for the role of Penderecki’s Mother Ubu directed by J. Wiśniewski.
Karolina Sikora was a close collaborator of the late prof. Krzysztof Penderecki. She participated in numerous concerts conducted by the composer himself, performing his works such as: Credo, Seven Gates of Jerusalem, and Te Deum. Popularising Penderecki’s works, both in Poland and everywhere around the world, remains a significant aspect of the singer’s concert activity.
With the 2022/23 academic year, she commenced her pedagogical activity at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
