Various engagements have led and continue to lead him to state symphony and chamber orchestras as well as municipal theatres and opera houses in Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Freiburg/Breisgau, Hof, Pforzheim, Heilbronn, Bolzano, Basel, Biel-Solothurn and Winterthur. He has also held part-time positions at several music schools as well as conducting engagements with wind orchestras.

After a successful start-up phase, Jens joined the presidential staff of the Lübeck University of Music, where he was responsible for the management of the career centre and designed offers for the transition from studying to working life. He also gave seminars, courses and counselling in music business, career planning and career orientation.

At the Zurich University of the Arts and the Lübeck University of Music, Jens gave instrumentation and interpretation seminars on composing for brass instruments and was a jury expert at the contemporary music interpretation competition. In the trumpet & percussion duo with Julian Belli (Freiburg i.Br.), he explored the possibilities of this unusually exciting instrumentation.
As a member of the rectorate of the Kalaidos University of Music, Jens is in charge of the study programme and examination management in ‘Performance Classics’. At the Winterthur Conservatory, he is co-head of the Ensembles & Events programme.
He gained significant experience over several years as organisational director and managing director of the ensemble ‘ö!’ for new music (Graubünden), whose Basel concert series he initiated and built up. He then worked as project manager at the Basel Sinfonietta, where he was responsible for the operational planning and realisation of the orchestra's activities.

Jens studied the trumpet in Freiburg im Breisgau, New York City (Manhattan School of Music, Fulbright Scholarship) and Stuttgart, where he completed his artistic and pedagogical diploma. He then continued his artistic training in Berlin (Hanns Eisler). His professors included Wolfgang Bauer, William Forman, Mark Gould and Anthony Plog. He wrote his diploma thesis on the youth orchestra scene in Peru after researching, teaching and performing there with the support of the German Academic Exchange Service.
As a scholarship holder of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt am Main, Jens completed a Master of Music in contemporary music.
Jens received lessons in historically informed interpretation practice from Hannes Rux and Friedemann Immer and is active in this field in concert. He deepened his knowledge of jazz with Axel Schlosser (hr Big Band) and others. He has also worked with flamenco musicians and dancers.
