One of Poland’s foremost conductors, Jacek Kaspszyk is Music Director of Poznan Opera where in the 2025/26 season he conducted a new Ran Arthur Braun production of Puccini’s Turandot and a David Poutney production of Elzbieta Sikora’s Dorian Gray to critical acclaim. The season also included a concert performance of Szymanowski’s King Roger at the Berlin Philharmonic and a forthcoming new production of the same opera in April 2026.
Recent seasons include a new David Poutney production of Verdi’s Otello as well as a return visit to China where since 2005 he has regularly conducted the China Philharmonic, the Guangzhou Symphony, the Shanghai Symphony and Hangzhou Symphony orchestras. Other highlights include a highly successful tour of China with the Warsaw Philharmonic, performances with the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic in Wroclaw and Dresden as well as appearances with the Presidential Orchestra Ankara, the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and Slovak Philharmonic Bratislava.
Jacek Kaspszyk has served as Artistic Director of both the Warsaw Philharmonic and NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic and as Music Director of the Polish National Opera and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. He also held the post of Principal Conductor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest and Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf.
Since his early success at the Karajan Conducting Competition Jacek Kaspszyk has performed with orchestras worldwide. European appearances include performances with the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Hamburg Symphony, Vienna Symphony, Lucerne Symphony, Bern Symphony, Slovenian Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic,
Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestra de Paris, Orchestra national d’Ile-de-France and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. In the UK he has conducted all the major London orchestras, the Halle, the Royal Liverpool Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and BBC Welsh Orchestra with whom he debuted at the BBC Proms. He has also performed with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony and Tokyo Philharmonic orchestras as well as the Symphony Orchestra of India.
In the field of opera Jacek Kaspszyk has performed among others with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Opera Comique in Paris, Opera de Lyon, Opera de Bordeaux, Staatstheater Nurnberg, Zurich Opera, English National Opera, Opera North Leeds, Scottish National Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and at the Puccini Festival in Tore del Lago.
As a recording artist Kaspszyk is particularly recognised for his interpretations of works by Polish composers. His recording of Lutoslawski’s Symphonies No. 2 & 4 with the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic won the 2011 Fryderyk Award for Album of the Year; his EMI recording of Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor with the Polish National Opera was awarded a Platinum Disc while that of Szymanowski’s King Roger with the PNO received rave reviews from Gramophone Magazine.
Kaspszyk is also the recipient of numerous awards, among others the Gloria Artis Gold Medal for Merit to Culture from the Polish Ministry of Culture, the Lutoslawski Medal for an all-Lutoslawski programme with Krystian Zimerman at the Warsaw Autumn Festival 2013 as well as the Elgar Medal in recognition of his performances of Elgar’s works.
