Iohan Coman Violin

Iohan Coman is a Romanian violinist born in Paris, where he began his musical studies at the S. Rachmaninoff Conservatoire. He later continued his training in Chișinău and Romania, encountering both the Romanian and Russian violin schools. A prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, he made his solo debut at the age of eight and has since performed widely as a soloist.
In 2018, Iohan moved to London on a full scholarship to the Purcell School, studying with Nathaniel Vallois. He joined the Royal Academy of Music in 2020 to pursue a bachelor’s degree with Remus Azoitei and So-Ock Kim. Iohan is currently undertaking a master’s degree with So-ock Kim.
He has played with several important artists like James Ehnes, Hilary Hahn, Vadim Gluzman, Clara-Jumi Kang, Dumitru Gouda (former student of Karajan) and many others.
Recent highlights include his debut in Poland performing Vivaldi’s Seasons, 1st Prize at the Wajnberg International Violin Competition, the LSO Scholarship, and the RPS Emily Anderson Prize, as well as his Wigmore Hall debut with Clio Gould, praised in The Strad for his “vivacious display of rapid-fire pyrotechnics and muscularity.”
Iohan plays a Cuypers violin kindly loaned through the Beare’s International Violin Society.
